AGS Geography Teacher Fellow Program Brings Teachers to the Forefront of Geography and Geospatial Innovation
Description: The 2nd annual AGS Geography Teacher Fellow Program is once again sponsored by Boundless and brings Geography teachers to the forefront of geography and geospatial innovation with the nation’s thought leaders from business, government, and academic backgrounds.
[New York City, NY] – [April 24, 2017] — This year marks the second year in a row that Boundless, an AGS corporate sponsor and leading provider of open source geospatial software and services, has sponsored the American Geographical Society’s (AGS) Geography Teacher Fellow Program. The Program will grant 50 geography teachers the opportunity to interact with, and become one of, the nation’s thought leaders at the most important geography event in the Fall in North America, the annual Geography 2050 Symposium. This year, Geography 2050 will focus on The Future of Mobility.
“AGS is known for bringing together geographical and geospatial leaders from business, government, academia, the not-for-profit world, and the media to discuss and plan for the future. The nation’s leading geography teachers are clearly important players in this group and we are very pleased that Boundless has continued to sponsor this Program” said Dr. John Konarski, Chief Executive Officer of AGS. “Besides what is accomplished at the Symposium, the AGS Teacher Fellows bring back to their classrooms the most recent advances in geographical education and practical application of the latest geospatial tools available,” added Dr. Konarski.
When asked about their sponsorship, Anthony Calamito, Vice President of Products said, “Boundless believes in the power of geography, and strives to promote geo-education wherever and whenever possible.” Anthony continued to say, “We also believe that open source software provides the best tools to help educators teach geography, and for students to practice in the classroom or at home. We are once again honored to sponsor Teacher Fellows at this year’s AGS Fall Symposium.”
The AGS Fall Symposium will be held on November 16th and 17th, 2017 at Columbia University in New York City. Teachers may begin applying for the AGS Geography Teacher Fellow program on the AGS website at www.americangeo.org.
