Joseph Oppong

Dr. Oppong is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies at the University of North Texas (UNT). He was a visiting instructor at the University of Iowa before joining the faculty at UNT where he has worked for over 30 years. He migrated to Canada for graduate studies because the University of Alberta provided generous graduate support and Canadian immigration was exceptionally student-friendly. Dr. Oppong geographic interests include topics in health and medical geography, economic geography, and quantitative methods. His research focuses on the geography of disease and how location influences where people will contract different illnesses. He has served as the chair of the Medical and Health Geography Specialty Group and the Africa Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers. Dr. Oppong is the Academic Associate Dean for the Toulouse Graduate school at UNT.
