Prior to her retirement, Dr. Moorhead was an instructor in geography at California State University, Northridge in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies from 2003 – 2007. She taught courses and seminars in medical geography, GIS, and the geography of California. Her research centered on tuberculosis in African Americans in Los Angeles in the decades surrounding World War II. The bulk of her professional life was devoted to a career in information technology as a project and program manager in lines of business including manufacturing, warehousing, retail sales, medical insurance, and telecommunications.
