Clifton Pannell
Dr. Clifton W. Pannell is professor of geography and associate dean of arts and sciences emeritus at the University of Georgia, where he taught for 35 years. He has continued to teach as visiting professor at the University of Hong Kong (2009, 2011, and 2014) and the University of Oregon (2010). Pannell’s teaching and research interests are in the urban, economic, and political geography of China and East Asia, and he has published extensively on these topics. Recent activities include work on China’s economy and recent changes in the Pearl River Delta region with emphasis on Hong Kong and Macau. In addition to serving on the AGS Council, he is a member of the China Research Center of Atlanta, GA and has served as external examiner for the undergraduate geography program at the University of Hong Kong. Pannell resides in Athens, GA.
